Decision-Making: More than Logic
TRANSCRIPT OF VIDEO:
It’s interesting. There are certain topics that sometimes I’m a little hesitant to bring up. I’m a little nervous that maybe I’m biased. Based on my talents or my results, do I see something in a certain way? And I just don’t want to throw it out there – because I want to respect how other people perceive things.
So especially – I’m concerned about people who tend to be very logic-based, or analytical, or very deliberate. Because often times people feel that decisions are 100% logical, or fact-based… or measuring pros or cons.
And one of the things that’s interesting to me as I’ve been doing this series is how (even the people who have Analytical within their top five or even their top two)… how quickly they… you can tell (even in the tone in their voice) how they understand that their decision-making process is not purely logical or is not purely analytical. And that’s coming from them, not from me – which is pretty cool to see.
And a lot of times I see (whether it’s myself or I see it in others) people going in circles in their mind because they feel like “How do I justify this? Or how do I explain it? How do I present it in a way that’s logical?”
And reality is that advertisers know us better than we know ourselves. They know that when they’re advertising something not to go with logic. They know to go with emotion. They know that they’re either stressing the pains that you’re going through and they’re offering you some sort of relief. Or they’re offering you: “Imagine this thing that could be different if only you tried our product or our service.”
So, it’s interesting… Advertisers know it. I think it’s time for us to remember that within ourselves and develop tools within ourselves. What are the cues (within ourselves) when we know which decision we want to go with – so that we relieve ourselves from going in circles? A lot of times people are indecisive because they just don’t know how to explain their decision. They don’t have to. They don’t have to. It just needs to be right with you. It needs to be something that you feel satisfied with.
