Decision-Making is Tainted Right Now
TRANSCRIPT OF VIDEO:
One of the things that’s coming up as people are making decisions right now… (And I understand that circumstances are really different now with coronavirus [COVID-19] and the pandemic.) People‘s needs are being threatened. So whether it’s your: sense of safety, or security. Health concerns. Financial concerns. Social concerns, [for example] within your family.
The fact that your needs or your sense of safety is being threatened is actually tainting your ability to make a decision. And I understand many people are being forced to make decisions right now. It’s going to happen at some point in life where circumstances aren’t ideal for decision-making. But the idea that I want to plant in the back of your mind is: Just keep in mind that focusing on your needs (or your fear, actually) is tainting your thought process. You’re unable to think clearly, and in some ways you’re getting in your own way of being able to listen to yourself.
I bring this up… Just a couple of days ago, I was working with somebody who has a talent for analyzing things. [They’re] incredibly gifted at being able to analyze a situation. But what was going on with this person is no matter which train of thought we went down, this person was bringing up blocks.
So, this gifted person at analyzing was being distracted by that analyzing talent of bringing in too much data. Here’s analyzing working against her, getting in her own way, and blocking her from making a decision.
So a couple of things were going on:
- Talent being misused.
- Second thing is being distracted by fear. Needs being threatened – so that also impacts the ability to make a decision. That’s why we’re going in circles and circles and circles.
- And the third thing was really not asking the right questions.
Here’s a person who (in a very fortunate way) has options. They’re not backed into: “I don’t have any options.” or “I only have one option.” This person has options. But instead of choosing:
- “Where do I want to go?
- What is it that’s drawing me forward?
- What’s inspiring me forward?
- What is in the direction of the life I want to live?”
This person was so distracted by the noise and all the things that could go wrong that they were being persuaded (in their mind) they were being persuaded into other directions just to hang on to some fictional sense of safety.
If anything, right now is showing us that there is no sense of safety. Right now is showing us that anything that we thought was secure or safe is actually quite fictional. Our sense of control is simply in our minds, because we don’t know what’s going to happen day-to-day. Not to put any fear in you. Just – this is an opportunity to really question how and why we do things.
